FAQ
Where are Scentsy Bars made?
In the United States. Scentsy manufactures all its wax products (and more wonderful, fragrant things) at our headquarters in Meridian, Idaho. The campus is also a base for our packaging and shipping operations and home office staff! Come visit us sometime — Scentsy Commons is open to the public. Trust us, the place smells as amazing as it looks. It is a stunning and beautiful location. Especially at christmas.
What’s in a Scentsy Bar?
Scentsy Bars are made of a proprietary, high-quality paraffin wax blend and fragrance oils, both synthetic and naturally derived, to make the highest-quality, longest-lasting bar. Some fragrances can’t be simulated naturally, so we create some scents using tested, safe and sustainable synthetic replacements. Our wax is formulated for its loading ability, melting point and firmness, so it warms easily and releases a lot of fragrance. You will also be happy to hear that Scentsy wax & fragrance oils are BPA-, lead-, gluten-, egg- & formaldehyde-free. They contain no parabens or nut oils!!
How do you make Scentsy Bars smell so authentic?
Hard work, brilliant parfumiers and a lot of love! Scentsy creates unique fragrance formulas for each bar using the scent pyramid. Each Scentsy Bar typically includes 30-60 ingredients to ensure each fragrance is just right. For example, our fan favorite Luna Scentsy Bar soothes with jasmine, sweet pea and freesia paired with juicy berries and sandalwood. You’ll wonder where the bakery is when warming a Blueberry Cheesecake Scentsy Bar. It evokes memories of the iconic thick, rich and creamy NY dessert with tart blueberries and a sweet graham cracker crust. With the complexity of each scent, it can sometimes smell different from time to time too.
Why are Scentsy Bars shaped like that?
Scentsy Bars and the clamshells they’re packaged in are modeled after our Classic Curve Warmer — one of Scentsy’s original warmer designs. And, well, those swooping sides are just more fun than a square!
Why are fragrances discontinued?
To keep things, ahem, fresh! We change the fragrance lineup each season because what’s vibrant in spring might seem out of place in December. But don’t fret! Whenever a fragrance is discontinued, there’s a good change we’ll bring it back sometime down the line (hello Bring Back my Bars happens twice a year). Now, if you find a fragrance that you simply can’t live without, be sure to add it to your Scentsy Club subscription! Our Always Get My Bar perk means we’ll keep making it just for you as long as it stays in your order — even if it’s discontinued!
Why does my Scentsy Bar appear to sweat?
Extreme temperature variations can cause the fragrance oils in your bar to separate and bead on the wax surface. But don’t worry! When warmed, the oils should blend back in and deliver the same amazing, world-class fragrance experience you’ve come to expect. Think like a wood door. It swells and shrinks based on the temp. The wax does the same thing. But it all goes back together.
Why does my Scentsy Bar look discolored?
Well, there’s some deep science at play here. But how you store your Scentsy Bars can impact their appearance over time. Keep in mind that just because the wax looks a bit different doesn’t mean it won’t smell great. Try it before you toss it! We do not use UV stabilizers in our wax. Blues and red tend to fade faster. But color does not equal scent strength. Use it!
How should I store Scentsy Bars?
Here’s the short answer: Keep them flat in a cool, dry place. The rest is just common sense. Store them out of direct sunlight and avoid drawers where they might get warm (like next to the oven or a heating vent). Use your oldest bars first, and keep them out of the freezer. I have containers in each room. An under the bed storage container, One in my towel closet in the bathroom and a box in a cabinet in the kitchen. PRO TIP: store a few cotton clean ups in your wax box for each switching. More on those below.
Do Scentsy Bars expire?
A good rule of thumb is to use your bars within a year for the best fragrance experience. Store your bars properly and rotate your stock to make the most of your Scentsy stash! But some of our original bars still smell amazing!
How long does a Scentsy Bar last?
We design each Scentsy Bar fragrance to last as long as possible. Most bars last between 40 to 100 hours. That’s a big range. But different factors can influence longevity of any given fragrance, including the variety of fragrance notes, the size of the space and other environmental influences. I personally change mine monday (new week refresh), wednesday (mid week refresh) and friday or saturday for weekend reset. I have also found my bathroom and bedroom scents last way longer (smaller rooms) than the kitchen one, which is a bigger room
Why can’t I smell my favorite fragrance anymore?
Sometimes, you can become immune to a scent by warming it too often. It’s called olfactory fatigue, or Nose blind, which sounds serious but the fix is simple. Just switch fragrances for a while and you’ll soon be able to experience your favorite scent again! Think of a trash man. Most people will ask, how in the world can you deal with that smell. Their response, you don’t notice after awhile. Good smells are the exact same. Change it up each scent change.
Can I use a Scentsy Bar in another brand’s wax warmer?
We don’t recommend it. Scentsy Bars have a low melting point for use with low-watt light bulbs and heating elements. Who knows what the other companies might be using. It could scorch the wax causing yucky smell. Or it could be super low and never melt it. There is a big science to make it all flow perfectly together.
Can I add a fresh Scentsy Bar cube to melted wax that is no longer fragrant?
It’s tempting to skip the clean-up, but adding new wax to used melted wax will impact the fragrance experience and performance. Scentsy Bars are formulated to hold as much fragrance oil as possible for long-lasting scent. Don’t dilute it! Plus the wax never evaporates. So adding new to old just makes it fuller and fuller. Just change it up!
How do I clean the wax out of my Scentsy Warmer?
The easiest and quickest way is using Cotton Cleanup. Place pads in the melted wax and the cotton absorbs the wax! In a pinch, regular cotton balls and paper towels do a good job. If the wax has cooled and hardened in the dish, turn the warmer on for just a few minutes to soften the wax and gently pop it out in once piece. Don’t use a knife. You can cut yourself or even damage your warmer or dish.
Are Scentsy Products safe?
Short answer: Yes! We take the safety of our products very seriously. We follow government safety standards and best industry practices. I personally have teenagers and pets. I have been using scentsy wax and products for a long time.
My Scentsy Bar smells so good! Can I taste it?
No. Scentsy’s products are not meant to be consumed. It won’t taste like it smells. Just don’t do it. But if push comes to shove during the zombie apocalypse, it won’t kill you.
Why do Scentsy Bars contain synthetic ingredients?
Not every fragrance can or should be simulated with natural ingredients. Our options to create a variety of full fragrance experiences would be very limited without synthetic ingredients. Think air, how do you bottle up ocean air to use in an oil?
Do Scentsy Bars contain harmful phthalates?
Nope! Scentsy fragrances do not contain or release harmful phthalates. A small percentage of Scentsy Bar fragrances contain extremely low levels of non-harmful diethyl phthalate (DEP), commonly used in fragrances to help blend ingredients and make them last longer. In fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not have safety concerns with the use of DEP in cosmetics and fragrances.
Do Scentsy Bars contain any nut or mineral oils? Do they contain Bisphenol A (BPA), gluten, lead, egg or formaldehyde?
Not at all!
