Why Your Notes App Is Not a Business System
We all use it. Business owner or not.
We all have some version of the Notes app, a notebook, or texting ourselves (I do this one A LOT 😅).
And honestly? It’s great.
Getting ideas out of your brain is necessary, especially when you run an online business and your brain never really shuts off.
But here’s where the Notes app (and notebooks) fall short:
they don’t remind you… and they don’t create action.
Why the Notes App Feels Productive (but isn’t)
You got all those thoughts out.
You made a nice little list.
And it feels good.
Look at these ideas. Look at me go. 👏
Because sometimes the hardest part is getting started, and making the list feels like progress.
But if you stop there… everything stops there.
The Notes app won’t nudge you.
It won’t tell you what to do next.
If you don’t move the idea forward, nothing happens.
Brain Dump + Action = A System
I’m a big fan of a nightly brain dump. Truly.
Get it all out of your head and onto paper (or your phone).
But then comes the important part — action.
Try this:
- Do a nightly brain dump
- Then plan one afternoon action the next day (did you like that? 😆)
That action could be:
- Scheduling or creating content from something in your dump
- Adding one item to your actual to-do list
- Moving an idea into a planner, calendar, or tracker
It doesn’t have to get done immediately.
It just has to move out of the dump and into something actionable.
And remember, taking one action is enough.
You do not need to tackle the whole list.
When ideas live only in your Notes app, they keep popping back up because your brain knows nothing is handling them.
When ideas turn into action, your brain can finally relax.
I’m all about simple systems that work in real life, not perfect ones.
Brain dumps are part of that… but action is what actually moves your business forward.
