Ramblings of a Network Marketer

Direct sales gets a bad rap. We’re a pyramid scheme. We prey on stay-at-home moms or weak people. You’ll go broke.

Guess what? That could be true. Just like some teachers sleep with their students. Some cops are terrible. Some bank tellers steal from their jobs.

Dude, people suck in every job. And guess what else? People fail at every job too.

You thought you wanted to be a CPA. You went to school for it. You got a job and found out you hated it. Do you go around bashing all CPAs?

That’s how it feels in direct sales sometimes. Someone has a bad experience, or they know someone who didn’t do well at it, so they blame the entire business, the entire industry.

Here’s the real skinny: It works if you work. But that “success” is different for everyone. But it doesn’t work for everyone. It’s not a get-rich-quick gig.

Sometimes the success is paying to get your nails done twice a month without it hitting your personal account. Sometimes it looks like meeting people who are like you and making friends. Sometimes it looks like you getting cash back (commission) on products you love so you don’t feel as guilty buying them. Dude, it is different for everyone.

Hearing all those opinions, all that hate, sometimes makes you scared to share what you do. Because people are going to judge you.

But it shouldn’t be like that. I’m beyond proud of what I’ve created, the team I’ve built, the people I’ve helped, the awards I’ve earned, the money I’ve made (while sitting at home in my jammies, no bra on), and the free trips I’ve taken.

Think about it—every Facebook group has that person asking for work-from-home jobs, but no DS or network marketing. Why? Why do you say that when I personally make enough to cover all our household bills every month? All while staying home?

All while being home when my kids came home, not having to call in sick or take a vacation day to take them to the DR or if they were sick. Being able to run errands with my husband on his days off. To be like, yes sure, lets go shopping today with a friend.

The world looks different now. People work for big companies from home. So why is my work-from-home gig so much worse? Celebrities promote and endorse all kinds of things, and no one bashes them for sharing something they love—or even something they don’t love, just for the paycheck.

You share your Starbucks obsession, your Kroger deals, and hype up your hairdresser… so why am I different?

Just some random thoughts in my head today

xoxo amber g.
