So you see it online, people go to these conventions and are like “omg it was life changing” or “I’m so empowered”. Dude, that feels, looks, and seems so weird. I didn’t believe it. Those people are weird.

So when I joined scentsy in Sept of 2016, they had their convention (called SFR Scentsy Family Reunion) that past aug. No biggie, i’m not one of those who are going lol.

Fast forward, and the sign-ups for the 2017 SFR are happening, Kansas City. So really not that far. I’m still not going, weirdos. Welp, lo and behold i earned it for free. So, guess im one of those weirdos going lol.

My upline team (meaning everyone above me and stuff) is getting a house that they offered to share with me. Ok cool, so i’m a weirdo going and im going to stay in a house with people i don’t know. Like at all. I’m going to be a lifetime movie. What am i thinking? But i say, yeah sure, #yolo lol. I also have never ever in my life done a solo trip. But i loaded up my car and drove further than i ever drove by myself to stay in a house with people i do not know to attend one of those weird conventions with weird people. Lord help me.

The drive was fine, the house was big and nice (minus the broken fridge, and the broken AC lol). I’ll admit, it was very overwhelming. All these people, different personalities, different business styles, etc. I was in the mind frame, this is a biz trip and im here to better my business, not party. I met some great people on that trip, and i met my bestie Yasha and we have chatted truly daily since then.

I have been to 5 in-person conventions since then, and i just finished my 6th one. So what happens at these things?

Well, there is a lot lol. Lots of people, lots of noise, lots of lights, and more. For us, we get to see and learn everything that will be coming in the fall and winter (aka the scents everyone loves lol). We learn about new products, how they work, etc. Any new programs or systems. This is also a time when we get some training.

Now we get training all year long. This is just much more concentrated. There are lots of consultant expert-led training on a topic they have excelled in. We can also ask our Home office staff questions, voice concerns, and more. It is a great way to be inspired by others or just take a nugget of an idea someone had and run with it.

We get to see all the new products in person. Which, for a consultant, is huge. This allows me to see it, touch it, etc. Does it have a big light shine? Is the texture bumpy or smooth? How big is it? How does it work? This part can be extremely valuable.

There is an element of “celebrity” too for some. As a consultant, we get training from consultants from all over. So sometimes you get to meet those consultants who have helped you in your business without them knowing they helped you. In this gig, you meet other consultants too who you become friends with, and this may be the only time a year you get to meet up with them in person and hang out with them.

If you have a big team, this can be a great time to meet up with a lot of your team. Because you could have teamies from all across the US and getting together is hard. So this is that one time a year that you may have a big turn out. So having that nice big moment together can be magical.

Of course there are giveaways. That is always awesome. And as a consultant a huge help to our business. To be able to go live with scents, sample them out, go live with a new product or a new system or just anything ahead of time is huge. I’m big on giving an honest opinion of things and this really truly helps. You, my people, benefit from this. And yes, we get a LOT of free stuff at SFR.

Lets recap my SFR experiences. Want to?? Ok Now, disclaimer, i may not be super accurate on what came out at what SFR. But you know what, close enough lol.

Kansas city

My first solo trip. Furthest i ever drove alone. First SFR. Stayed in a house with a million people (ok, like 11). It was very overwhelming. But im glad i went. We got to go to a Royals game for free which was neat to see for the 5.5 seconds i was there because my butt said, bus please and took a shower in a pretty empty house and i have #noregrets. This was the year of the fragrance flower and i think pet line.

Austin Texas

This was my first time flying alone since i was little (which i do NOT remember). I’ll admit it, i cried when jeremy dropped me off at the airport. What am i doing!?!. I stayed in a room with a friend of mine Chelsey. And she has since passed. Im so happy i had that time with her. I cried when i got there because she wasnt in the room, and i was just beyond overwhelmed with flying alone (im not the best flyer) and then i had no idea where anything was and i was hungry lol. Once she got to the room, it was easier and better lol. She had been in the gig longer than me, so i sort of let her lead. We had like a big food truck rally as our special opening night party that year. And we had the Fitness Marshall as our fitness activity. That was truly a blast. If you don’t know who they are, look them up. It was fun. This year did not feel as wild minus the travel. I think because instead of seeing what 10 other people were doing and waiting on them, it was just me and her. This was the year of wall fans

Virtual

Of course for a few years we have virtual. Which wasn’t the same but it was better than nothing. And since then we have offered a virtual option to consultants because sometimes traveling is hard.. I don’t remember much from those years, but i mean i think we all try to block those years from our brains!

Salt Lake City

This was our first SFR after being virtual. I was very excited about this one. I’d never been to SLC. I had a teamie going with me (my first time having that) we were traveling there together. SLC is beautiful. It is wild to be in a big city and look over and there are like real mountains with snow on them in july. One of my scentsy friends that was staying with us lived in SLC so she took us up into the mountaints. Now, i did stay in a HOTEL room with a total of 6 people. Yes you read that right, 1 regular room with 6 people. I’ll never do that again lol. I don’t think there was an inch of floor that didn’t have a suit case on it. I’m just getting too old for that craziness lol. We got another opening party of Food Trucks which is neat because everybody’s food trucks are different lol. Salt Lake city was the year of the Hedwig buddy and Harry Potter announcements. My nerd butt was happy about this one.

Charlotte

This was my favorite one up to that point. My bestie Yasha lives right outside of Charlotte. So i drove to her early, stayed a few days with her at her house and then we drove to Charlotte. And we also did a room just the 2 of us. Which is a million times better. Her area has all these Food Halls. Which is like a mall food court, but just food. It is honestly a really neat idea and i enjoyed it. We need those in Ohio. Anyway. It was so easy just the two of. I did have 6 teamies go that year!!!! Like what in the world! So i felt very accomplished this year too. We had access to the Nascar Hall of Fame for our opening party. Im not a NASCAR fan, but i mean having free access to it is super cool. That was also the year of When i left Yasha’s house i went straight to vacation in Lake Cumberland. Like i did not go home, i drove there. So i was gone for a smidge over 2 weeks. That was honestly a long long long time. I don’t know if i would do it again that way. But i mean #firstworldproblems. This year was the Tree holiday bricks and the Willy Wonka collection

Orlando

Oh Orlando. This was another super fun one and my favorite up to that point, see how that goes lol. So i drove to Charlotte, picked up Yasha and we drove to Orlando. We went a day early and went to Island’s of Adventure. I mean how could you not when you are in Orlando??? We had such a flipping blast. It was my first time going to the Islands since they put in all the Harry Potter stuff. Then As an incentive earner, i got extra goodies. I went to Magic Kingdom before it even opened. Talk about amazing. To go in the park like that was wild. Now SFR isn’t normally like that, but it was our 20th birthday so they went all out. Then i had access to the park for FREE for the rest of the day. So Yasha met me and we then did Magic Kingdom all day. Rough life i know. By then, SFR hadn’t even really started. But when it did our opening night party was in Universal Studios for FREE and ALL the food we wanted for free. Just us had access to the park. Talk about a wild moment. Like who has that? Who says, oh, i had access to the park just us after hours and free food? That was honestly an amazing amazing SFR. This was the year of the power house Scentsy Air quad.

Minneapolis

This was this year. I just got home from it last week. Our opening party was at the mall of america. Which is pretty cool. We had access to the amusement park part. I helped train other consultants which is always fullfilling. I’m proud of that. To be asked to help others is so important. It can be scary, teaching others, being in the spotlight like that. But i’m very proud of be asked. This was the year we annouced a whole rebrand and the introduction of candles. This SFR was more of a grown up event it felt. It was smaller and intimate. I’m here for it.

Every year, I leave SFR reminded that this business is so much more than wax and warmers. It’s growth. It’s confidence. It’s finding your people. It’s pushing yourself in ways you didn’t think you could. And honestly? It’s a really freaking good time. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be part of something like this… maybe it’s time you found out. 💜
