Do you remember 2020?
Joking? But no, really.
The world was wild. COVID happened. The world was so divided. George Floyd happened.
For us, it was just a wild, crazy, scary mess.
The highway patrol puts out a newsletter. Sometimes I see them; sometimes I don’t. Not important lol.
I had seen a blip about another post doing a trunk or treat and thought…ok we should do this.
But remember it is COVID times.
I truly said, who cares, let’s make it feel normal. And let’s all show people that not all law enforcement are scary or bad or whatever they were being called at that time (and it was a LOT of things).
I told Jeremy what I wanted to do.
Then I essentially told the LT what I was going to do. lol. I don’t recommend that, but I mean, I’ve been at this gig a long time lol.
Our post is located really in a retail area. Not a ton of houses. So we did not know if we would get any trick-or-treaters, and well, COVID. But I was going to try.
Despite the weather (the weather is ALWAYS bad on trick-or-treat) we had a better turnout than I ever expected.
And not just with trick-or-treaters. Post families stepped up and set up. The SD, FD, ODNR, and more.
We are now getting ready to do our 7th year. I’m honestly extremely proud of it. It was created when the world was upside down on a lot of things. But kids, they don’t need to feel that. I just wanted everything to feel normal, fun, spooky lol.
As I’m trying to figure out what makeup to do for year 7 (because with as many layers that I have to wear…you only see my face lol), we are hoping for good weather. Because it has been nice weather all Oct…fingers crossed!
Every year the weather is rain, sleet, snow, wind, crap…but those kids show up. Families set up. Other agencies set up. It fills my heart.
It is something I’m just so very proud of.
Six Years of Trunk or Treat
